Supervision & Training

Session 14 · process note

Arrived four minutes late, apologised twice. I noticed I was relieved. Spoke at length about a family wedding and the stage photographs, and who was never called up. Near the end, a long silence. I filled it, too soon. Seemed fine. What I didn’t say.

Psychoanalytic supervision

No practice can rely on the relational unconscious of one person, alone in a room full of affect, projections and transferences. Supervision here is an analytic attitude, carried in to develop a psychoanalytic sensibility. We look at the case, and at whatever spills over from it into the room between us.

The Work of Psychoanalysis

Most of us are left with theory in one hand and a patient in the other, and very little to hold the two together. This foundational training makes psychoanalytic concepts less vague, and more usable. What we are after is a way of thinking that stays with you in the clinic.

Who it is for

Early career therapists and clinical psychologists. Practitioners trained in other modalities who want a grounded meeting with psychoanalytic method. Counsellors in institutions who wish to deepen their listening. Those preparing for formal psychoanalytic training who want a serious foundation first.

Prior psychoanalytic exposure is welcome, but not mandatory. The programme opens a door. Walking through takes years of further work, personal analysis and accredited training.
